I don't know what the next four years are going to hold, but tonight at least, I can sleep a little better.

4E [Jul. 16th, 2008|10:48 am]
So a few weeks ago, I was asked if I would be interested i participating in a new online D&D 4E campaign.  I was a little wary given that I've never done an online campaign before, but I couldn't resist the temptation to check out the new system.  ...And you know what?  I like 4E.  A LOT.
I don't think it's any secret that rogues got no love under 3.0/3.5.  Anything they (and bards) could do, others could do just as well if not better.  4E rogues however...wow.  They are badass.  And I really like the other classes too!  It's really nice having a Warlord in your party...and 1st level Wizards don't die if a kobold so much as looks in their direction now!

Oh, and go check out Dr. Horrible.  NOW.

Don S. Davis, RIP [Jun. 30th, 2008|08:41 pm]
Gonna miss you, Major Briggs.  I'll never forget quite literally running into you while walking around downtown Seattle.  While wearing my Twin Peaks t-shirt.  You looked mortified.  :-(

If you're a fan of MST3K (or "MSTie") and you have NOT picked up the new Film Crew DVDs, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Hollywood After Dark is particularly delightful.

That is all.

An update! [May. 31st, 2006|03:34 pm]
[Current Mood | content]

So there, [info]aguaencendida. Thbbpth.

Had a good time this weekend at [info]kreestopearq and [info]kidling's party. Saw many many people that I've gone too long without seeing. I'm an idiot for not having gone up to their place previously, but I plan to remedy this further and spend some time up there the weekend of the 10th as well...

Not much else to report...enjoying my week off. Currently enjoying Jeremy Brett's delightful portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.
Last night, finally saw The Chronicles of Riddick for the first time...a very odd movie. Visually, it has to be one of the most stunning movies I've ever seen - truly incredible. The plot, however...A real letdown after the wonderful Pitch Black and equally spectacular Escape From Butchers Bay game. Ah well.

You are the Hanged Man

Self-sacrifice, Sacrifice, Devotion, Bound.

With the Hanged man there is often a sense of fatalism, waiting for something to happen. Or a fear of
loss from a situation, rather than gain.

The Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes.

The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. It signifies selflessness, sacrifice and prophecy. You make yourself vulnerable and in doing so, gain illumination. You see the world differently, with almost mystical insights.

Holy crap! [Oct. 28th, 2005|09:29 am]
I know I haven't posted in a long while, but this is just WAY too cool not to post... Stephen King is going to write original Dark Tower stories for an ongoing Marvel comic book! Glee! You can't see me right now, but I'm so happy that I'm actually shaking...well, it's either that or this cold/flu nastiness that I've come down with.

Alas, J. Michael Straczynski has confirmed that the deal for a Babylon 5 movie has fallen apart.  I don't know why I bother getting excited about these things anymore...

OMG! [Jan. 21st, 2005|02:42 pm]
[Current Mood | ecstatic]

OK, it's a little bit difficult for me not to squeal like a schoolgirl here, but OMG!  The trailer for Corpse Bride is up in the movie trailers section of the iTunes store and YOU MUST GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW!!!  Forget Willy Wonka, THIS is the Tim Burton movie to end all Tim Burton movies.  Can't...wait...till...halloween...

P.S.  If you haven't seen the trailer for Sin City yet (shame on you), watch it while you're up there.  Equally breathtaking.

You scored as True Neutral. A True Neutral person has two faces- either these people are merely apathetic, preferring to focus their minds on more important things, or these people truly believe in a balance of all things. To these people, there can be no light without some darkness. These people also have no dedication to, or intrinsic distrust of, laws.

Sometimes I hate my body... [Dec. 23rd, 2004|08:55 pm]

[Current Music |Page/Plant Unledded DVD]

So here I lie on our couch, watching a concert DVD.  "Why Nate," you ask, "Don't you have Christmas things to do?"  Yes.  Yes I do.  But my fucking back is having one of its annual spasm fits this week, and the more I try to accomplish, the worse it gets.  I've been trying to ignore it the best I can the past few days, but it got so bad this evening that I had to come home instead of finishing the shopping that needs to be done.  Laura's being a good sport, thankfully.

[Current Music |Road Trippin' - Red Hot Chili Peppers]

My computer is behaving much better now that I've formatted it.  It's going to take me forever before I get it back to a "comfortable" state though - I had forgotten how much tweaking I've done to it over the past 2-1/2 years.
Not a whole lot else going on...dreading the approach of Christmas and wondering what the heck to get my Dad as a gift.  Probably some DVDs, but I'm running low on ideas...

Stupid home PC has decided it doesn't like me anymore.  I am retaliating by formatting the damn thing.  Ha.

I just hope it's not a hardware problem...

[Current Music |The Robot Has Got The Blues - Worm Is Green]

Not a whole lot going on...had a pleasant and relaxing weekend. Saw the fam on Thursday and then spent the rest of the weekend watching DVDs, sleeping and finishing off Sly 2 (a PS2 game I can heartily recommend).

There's some neat music/sound design clips up at Subvertical. Also check out his music site for some great tunes.

Fans of Icelandic electronica should definitely check out Worm Is Green...their album, Automagic has some absolutely wonderful soundscapes. My Icelandic coworker turned me onto them, as he's old friends with the lead singer. Great stuff...

So...I'm at work, everything outside is covered in ice and I'm bored. Anybody got any suggestions for neat Firefox extensions to play with?

Giving this thing a whirl... [Nov. 23rd, 2004|03:20 pm]
[Current Mood | sleep-deprived]
[Current Music |All Mine - Portishead]

All right, I'm finally going to get off my lazy butt and give this LJ thing a try. I've been meaning to for awhile now, but, well, I'm a procrastinator. Not quite sure what I'm going to do here yet, but I suspect that this will end up being more of a "whatever currently grabs my fancy" sort of deal and less of a personal journal. We'll see, though.

How to start? Hmm...Let's go with a few links that I found interesting...

Fellow Browncoats can join me in a wail of sorrow: Serenity, the Firefly movie, has been delayed until the end of next September.

Geeks in the know are aware of both Neil Gaiman's and Wil Wheaton's blogs...but did you know that the bastard genius of comics, Warren Ellis, has a blog? I'll bet not, and really, you should be reading it. Lovely fellow. Just be aware that he does occasionally post some NSFW things.

and last (but certainly not least!), please join me in a hearty Happy Birthday to one of my favorite shows...41 years of Doctor Who! May the upcoming new show live up to its incredible legacy. Hmm...maybe I'll have to put on an episode tonite...
